Magician Accused of Roulette Scam Extradited to Nevada for New Casino Fraud Charges

A professional magician is once again at the center of a major casino fraud case in the United States. Shaun Joseph Benward, better known as Shaun Mistery, has been extradited to Nevada, where prosecutors have filed new charges alleging he manipulated roulette payouts through distraction rather than sophisticated technology.

According to U.S. authorities, Benward didn't rely on hidden devices or a system to beat roulette. Instead, investigators claim he created confusion at live roulette tables and pressured dealers into awarding payouts he wasn't entitled to receive. Authorities Say Confusion Was Part of the Strategy

Investigators allege Benward waited until after the roulette ball landed before insisting his chips had been placed on the winning number. During busy moments at the table, he reportedly argued that dealers had made a mistake while handling his bets.

In several incidents, prosecutors claim an accomplice backed up his version of events, increasing the pressure on casino staff. According to the allegations, the combination of distraction and persistence sometimes resulted in incorrect payouts.

Already Serving Time in Iowa

The Nevada case comes after Benward was convicted in Iowa in connection with fraud at Grand Falls Casino in Larchwood.

Authorities said he fraudulently collected more than $10,000 by disputing payouts, splitting transactions between different cashiers and even changing clothes to avoid drawing attention. Casino.org reported that he received a ten-year prison sentence in February 2026 for that case.

Although he has now been transferred to Nevada, it's important to note that he has not been convicted of the new charges. Prosecutors have charged him with three felony counts involving fraudulent casino activity and three conspiracy-related offences under Nevada gambling laws.

Long History With Nevada Casinos

Benward has been on Nevada's infamous Black Book since December 2023, preventing him from entering the state's major casinos. According to U.S. regulators and media reports, he had already been banned from 17 Nevada casinos before being added to the exclusion list.

His name has also surfaced in casino fraud investigations in several other U.S. states, making him a familiar figure for gaming regulators.
